The Times July 10, 2001
The Times (UK) had 'neatly' shrunk the NYT article down to...
"It causes hallucinations, out-of-body experiences and the sensation
of being another person. It is also legal. Salvia divinorum, a herb from
Mexico, is America's new hip drug, despite side-effects such as short-term
memory loss and unconsciousness. The US Drug Enforcement Agency is collecting
information on Salvia divinorum, including police reports, to decide if it
should be controlled."
this appeared only as a footnote in an article principally about the
legalisation of cannabis (e.g. search on: cannabis salvia in www.thetimes.co.uk
to find the original article)
The Independent (UK) did a similar condensation of the NYT story, as did the
'Sydney Morning Herald' (Australia) and no doubt other national newspapers
worldwide.
Note that on the 10th and 11th of July in particular the fall out from this
media 'coverage' (i.e. small mentions in two UK papers) was a 10-fold increase
in the number of enquiries I received. Suggesting that if Salvia becomes
anything like as 'trendy' over here, you should treat your little plants as
veritable goldmines!
